Meet the adorable Holly..; cat photography; Lehigh Valley, Easton, Allentown, Bethlehem pet portraits by photographer Tracy Bodeo

Here are two quick pictures of Holly, an adorable and mischievous kitten I had the pleasure of photographing.  She was much more interested in running around and hiding under the couch than she was in getting her pictures taken!  She did eventually settle down enough to get some “relaxing” shots.

Holly was found in the woods as a stray but quickly became very friendly and loving to her new family.  She shares a home with her parents and three big brothers (one human, one canine, one feline).

Image of the day, “Gorgeous Ovenbird”; nature photography by Lehigh Valley pet portrait photographer Tracy Bodeo.

An afternoon walk at Jacobsburg State Park to look for some Spring migrants, started and ended with a wonderful find… the Ovenbird.  The Ovenbird is a small warbler that breeds in Pennsylvania (and many other surrounding states).  It’s song, a loud “teacher, teacher, teacher”, can easily heard throughout the forests, but the bird itself is often difficult to get a glimpse of.  I was lucky this past Wednesday when at the end of my walk (after hearing several right when I got out of my car and throughout the walk) I could hear two birds calling nearby, just off the edge of the trail.  Finally after scanning the area with and without binoculars, I caught sight of one of these beautiful birds and was able to quickly capture a few nice images.

I also came across this poem about the Ovenbird, written by one of my favorite poets.  Enjoy.

The Oven Bird

THERE is a singer everyone has heard,
Loud, a mid-summer and a mid-wood bird,
Who makes the solid tree trunks sound again.
He says that leaves are old and that for flowers
Mid-summer is to spring as one to ten.
He says the early petal-fall is past
When pear and cherry bloom went down in showers
On sunny days a moment overcast;
And comes that other fall we name the fall.
He says the highway dust is over all.
The bird would cease and be as other birds
But that he knows in singing not to sing.
The question that he frames in all but words
Is what to make of a diminished thing.

Fun at the Fetching Pet Portraits Fundraiser; tracy bodeo photography at AVH Veterinary Group

Our second annual Fetching Fundraiser took place at AVH Veterinary Group on February 5th, 2012.  The images were posted online shortly after the event, but I am still receiving the final choices of what to print by clients who purchased the portrait packages that raised money for the Center for Animal Health and Welfare.  In all, we raised $2003.00 for the Center, the majority of which came from the portraits, but an additional $400.00+ came from our raffle.  Several dogs from the Center were there to greet customers (in the hopes of finding their own homes) and AVH also ran a puppy playgroup during the event– what a crowd we had!  All the dogs who participated in the event seemed to have a great time!

Below are a few pictures taken during the event (courtesy of Bob Thompson) and then some of my favorite client portraits from the event.  Thank you to all these gorgeous dogs who helped raise money for the homeless animals at the shelter!

UPDATE on: Meet some of the Center for Animal Health and Welfare shelter cats at Petco on 25th St. Easton, PA; Lehigh Valley pet portraits.

UPDATE (1/9/12): All cats shown in this post have been adopted!!

Petco on 25th Street in Easton, PA has recently become a temporary home to several cats from the Center for Animal Health and Welfare (formerly the Northampton County SPCA).  The CAHW has had many pet adoption days for both dogs and cats at Petco, but now Petco has also put in Cat Habitats in an effort to give some of the shelter cats more visibility.  So far, it seems to be working out very well and quite a few cats from the Center have been adopted through Petco.

Amelia was the most recent adoptee, taken home by a nice family today.  Now there are three beautiful cats that currently call Petco “home”.  Yams is a really sweet little girl, approx. 2 years old.  Zazu is a gorgeous, sweet young male.  And Elmo is a young, frisky male who loves to play (stretching against his scratcher, below).  All are spayed or neutered, utd on shots and litter box trained.  Visit Petco and meet our wonderful cats!

The 2011 Center for Animal Health & Welfare Holiday Cards are now available; Easton area shelter pet portraits by tracy bodeo photography

The 2011 Center for Animal Health and Welfare holiday cards are now available for purchase in an effort to raise money for the Center.  Each pack of eight 5×7 cards (2 each of 4 designs) costs $20.00 and all proceeds go directly to the animals at the Center.  You can choose a cat pack or a dog pack or get one or more of both!  If there is one particular style that you like best, you can also order one pack of 25 cards for $60.00.  All of the animals featured on the cards are residents of the CAHW and some of them have been there for 1 or 2+ years.  We are hoping not only to raise some money but also to raise awareness of our homeless pets and find them homes for the holidays.  If you are interested in adopting one of our homeless pets or in purchasing a pack or two of our cards, please visit the Center in Easton www.healthyanimalcenter.com or contact me directly at mail@tracybodeo.com .  Thank you to our sponsors who helped cover the cost of printing: “A Furry Tail Come True” Doggie Daycare and Boarding www.afurrytailcometrue.com  (Hellertown, PA), AVH Veterinary Group www.avhvet.vetsuite.com (Pen Argyl, PA) and Joanie & Bob Thompson of Thompson Photo Arts- nature and wildlife photography http://thompsonphotoarts.com.  Thank you for your support!
