We will also be having a free puppy playgroup and adoptable dogs from the Center at the event from 12-2 pm. Winning raffle tickets (see flyer below) will be drawn at the end of the event and winners will be notified by phone. You do not need to be present to win a prize, so if you would like to purchase any tickets, and help raise $ for our shelter animals, just let me know!

It’s almost here…. Our 2nd annual Fetching Pet Portrait Fundraiser will take place on Sunday, Feb. 5th, 2012. This year we will also be having a free “puppy playgroup” and a raffle with lots of great prizes! Portrait sessions are limited and will take place between 10 am - 4 pm. All proceeds will benefit the animals at the Center for Animal Health and Welfare www.healthyanimalcenter.org. UPDATE (1/9/12): All cats shown in this post have been adopted!!

Petco on 25th Street in Easton, PA has recently become a temporary home to several cats from the Center for Animal Health and Welfare (formerly the Northampton County SPCA). The CAHW has had many pet adoption days for both dogs and cats at Petco, but now Petco has also put in Cat Habitats in an effort to give some of the shelter cats more visibility. So far, it seems to be working out very well and quite a few cats from the Center have been adopted through Petco.

Amelia was the most recent adoptee, taken home by a nice family today. Now there are three beautiful cats that currently call Petco “home”. Yams is a really sweet little girl, approx. 2 years old. Zazu is a gorgeous, sweet young male. And Elmo is a young, frisky male who loves to play (stretching against his scratcher, below). All are spayed or neutered, utd on shots and litter box trained. The 2011 Center for Animal Health & Welfare Holiday Cards are now available; Easton area shelter pet portraits by tracy bodeo photography

The 2011 Center for Animal Health and Welfare holiday cards are now available for purchase in an effort to raise money for the Center. Each pack of eight 5×7 cards (2 each of 4 designs) costs $20.00 and all proceeds go directly to the animals at the Center. You can choose a cat pack or a dog pack or get one or more of both! If there is one particular style that you like best, you can also order one pack of 25 cards for $60.00. All of the animals featured on the cards are residents of the CAHW and some of them have been there for 1 or 2+ years. We are hoping not only to raise some money but also to raise awareness of our homeless pets and find them homes for the holidays. Check out this adorable little boy…. His photo session actually took place on his 2nd birthday. All we needed to do to get him to cooperate was promise him a cupcake!

Have you checked out the current issue (Sept./Oct.) of the Bark Magazine (sold at B&N bookstores, etc.)? One of the images I had taken for a client of their beautiful dog Gracie (rescued from Safe Haven), appears in an article about HeARTsSpeak, a group of which I am a member. HeArtsSpeak is a non-profit organization whose vision is to “unite the individual efforts of animal artists & animal rescues into collective action for social change” with one goal being to stop unnecessary killing of adoptable animals. The article talks about the origin of the group, the artists who donate their time to photograph shelter animals, and the power of a good photograph in helping to get these animals adopted. Gracie is shown in the article below with the blue-ish background. My favorite part about this image is the thoughtful look on Gracie’s face. After getting pictures of the whole family with Gracie, I wanted to get a picture of her alone. She was very nervous as I put her in the center of the studio. She sat still because she is such a sweet dog, but she looked over at her mom as if to ask “why?” I got one of two shots of her and we were finished. She couldn’t wait to be back by her mom’s side.

Despite the downpour right in the middle of the event, “Paws for a Cause” turned out to be a great success. Thanks to an amazing group of volunteers, we were able to get 37 dogs from the Center for Animal Health and Welfare down to Hugh Moore Park, to spend a high-energy afternoon walking, running and socializing. They were able to play with each other as well as visit with potential adoptive families and Center alumni. They all seemed so happy to be out and about, which made it very difficult to bring them back to the Center at the end of the day.

Come to the 19th ANNUAL “PAWS FOR A CAUSE” to benefit The Center for Animal Health & Welfare. The event will take place rain or shine on Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 12 PM – 4 PM at Hugh Moore Park in Easton, PA.

Lehigh Valley Animal Rescue Groups Featuring Adoptable Dogs from the Center for Animal Health & Welfare.
